The school year is in its last days….June 20, 2017

The school year is in in last days and all learning material has been put away. It is now up to the teachers to come up with activities to occupy the children. Today we went to see a play that starts out with a little girl saying, ” I am going to tell you a story. We are in Florida.” Why she has to tell us it is Florida I do not know. Nothing in the rest of the story refers to Florida or anything about Florida. This is my first grade class with Maria Jose. Maria insisted that they must have inherited my bad eyesight.

I made the school newsletter. I was teaching about farm animals and had the children act out a story about the farm using cut out animals. “They love Jose” makes me feel great!

There has been a major heat wave throughout Spain and Portugal. A huge fire in Portugal killed over 50 people because they chose to drive on a road that cut through the fire. Smart people!

The apartment is very hot just as it is very cold in winter. There is a small air conditioner which I use to cool the bedroom and it struggles to do that. A kitchen wall is all glass and faces the afternoon sun. I covered all the windows with aluminum foil and it helps. Who knows what that does to the apartments where the sun is reflected to.

I am in the process of completing the paperwork for another year in Spain and it is as complicated as it was the first year. But I know I will get through it.

A few weeks ago I went to Segovia. It is about an hour and a half from Madrid. It has one of the best preserved aqueducts in Europe.

I stayed at an Airbnb where the mother of the owner acted as the host. She served the most complete and delicious breakfast everyday at no extra charge. It seemed to me that the son had found something for his mother to do that made her feel useful and gave her people to talk and interact with. I may do that when I get old ( older?).
