Artist of the Month – August 2019 – Kathy Hatt

Posted on July 30, 2019 in AAWM Center for the Arts - Artist of the Month, What's New

Kathy Hatt is a native of Arizona, born in the small mining town of Miami. Not having any formal art training, she has worked hard to develop her own style of expressing herself on canvas. Kathy has learned by studying the techniques of the Old Masters way of building color through many thin layers of glazes to create a highly detailed, realistic composition and a feeling of emotion. She works in her studio from reference photos she takes herself. Kathy’s paintings of Apache and Navajo girls are painted with an enormous amount of detail to provide a glimpse into the subject’s inner spirit to create a feeling of the motion inspired by the American Indian dance. In her landscapes, Kathy tires to capture the uniqueness and beauty of every leaf, flower, blade of grass or needle on a pine tree.
