Special Events

The Center for the Arts is a Gallery and Gift Shop open to the public and we hold a variety of special events.

Here is an example of our special events:

Cork n’ Canvas!
The Arts Alliance of the White Mountains expanded our Cork ‘n Canvas evenings. Beginning in February and running through October, on the last Friday of each month, we host our Cork ‘n Canvas. We’d like to invite you to join us from 5 pm to 7 pm and socialize with the artists. We have live music. Our sponsors provide wine and hors d’oeuvres. It’s a good time to check out what’s new in the gallery and find out about upcoming events and classes. Suggested donation of $10.00 per person.

AAWM’s Student Art Show

1st and Best of Show – “Joshua” by Grace Calliope Sweet, Home Schooled

Each year the Center for the Arts and Navopache Electric Cooperative sponsors an art show for kids. This year’s Student Art Show expands the ages of the participants to allow more involvement with older students. There are no entry fees and prizes will be presented to the first, second, and third place winners in each category. The art show in 2021 is for students in grades 4 through 12 in the various schools in the White Mountains. Each entering artist is allowed three pieces of original art. This year the show will run in late April and early May. The entry deadline is April 21st at noon and the entry form can be found HERE

A People’s Choice category is included and judging will be requested by visitors to the Center for the Arts while the show is running. The Awards Reception is to be held on May 8th at 11 am. Art MUST be picked up by 4 pm that day.

2nd Annual Photography Show

As the Bi-Annual Art Shows at the Center for the Arts have continued to grow, the space for the shows has not. As such, in 2020 we removed Photography from the Bi-Annual Art Shows and created a show all on its own. This year the 2nd Annual Photography Show will run from June 25th through July 9th with an awards presentation to be held on July 10th at 11 am. Entries are due at the Center on June 23 by noon. Your entry form can be found HERE.

Bi-Annual AAWM Art Show

Twice a year the Center for the Arts has an Art Show for any artist living in Arizona. Entries can be either 2D Art, 3D Art, Jewelry or Fiber Arts. The entry form for the 21st Bi-Annual Art Show can be found HERE. This show will run from May 28th through June 11th. The entries, forms, and fees are due at the Center on May 26th by noon. The awards presentation for the show will be held on June 12th at 11 am.

The entry form for the 22nd Bi-Annual Art Show can be found HERE. This show is scheduled to run from August 20th until September 3rd. The entries, form, and fees are due at the Center on August 18th by noon. The awards presentation for the show will be held on September 4th at 11 am.

Entries for all shows must meet three criteria: Have a wire for hanging, have been created in the last 2 years, and must be entered by the artist.

4th Annual Recycled Art Exhibition

Best Use of Color – “Rose Pedals Rug” by Laurie Dikes

New in 2018, The Arts Alliance of the White Mountains added a Recycled Art Exhibition. Hard to believe that we’re already into year four of the show! After several requests of members, we emulated the Artists’ Coalition of Flagstaff. Since then, it’s become a favorite! This year we’ll run the Annual Recycled Art Exhibition from July 21st through August 7th. Entries and entry forms are due at the Center for the Arts on Wednesday, July 21st by noon. The awards reception will be held on Saturday, August 18th at 11 am. The entry form for the Recycled Art Exhibit can be found HERE

Paint with Friends

Each Thursday local artists meet and bring a project to work on together. Bring your passion and your project. Join the fun, meet and create with new friends! This free event is every Thursday from 10 am to 2 pm.

Native Flute Circle

A flute circle is a gathering of people who meet regularly to learn, play, share or simply enjoy the music of the Native Flute. Flute circles welcome all levels of flute-playing skill: from beginner to experienced; it is a gathering of anyone interested in the Native flute. Most flute circles embrace a philosophy of improvisation and “playing from the heart” so no musical experience is necessary.

A Native Flute Circle will be held monthly at the Center for the Arts. The group will meet at the Center on the third Saturday of each month from 2 pm to 4 pm. Registration is not necessary.

Center for the Arts Book Hub

In June 2020, the Center for the Arts revamped our reading group with a new coordinator and fresh enthusiasm. We meet monthly to share ideas and thoughts from the book assigned the month before. The 2nd Friday of each month from 10:30 to noon was designated as our meeting time.

Music Jam

Music Jam is on the first Saturday of each month from 2 PM to 4 PM. Bring your instrument and jam. In general acoustic instruments are preferred. The public is welcome to come and listen and enjoy the event.

Show Low Writer’s Group

Do you want to write a book? Or just write? Come join us at the Show Low Writers Group at the AAWM Center for the Arts. We become better writers through critiquing and writing exercises. This group meets 10 am to noon on the second & fourth Thursday of each month.
Everyone is welcome.

Lakeside Writers Group

Lakeside Writers exists to support and encourage writers in the White Mountains of Arizona through critique groups and support of marketing efforts of local published writers. Writers of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, plays, and screenplays are invited to participate. The group normally meets on the second Saturday of each month – check their website for times. Everyone welcome. Visit the group’s website for more information on what to bring (Yes, you need to bring samples of your writing) – LEARN MORE
