2017 AAWM Kid’s Art Contest
The Arts Alliance of the White Mountains has sponsored their 4th Annual Kid’s Art Show featuring the work of local children in grades K through 8.
This year there were 129 pieces of art submitted with 84 artists. Each category has a first, second and third place winner. Categories are K-3, 4-5 and 6-8. Navopache Electric sponsored the show with a $200 donation. As sponsor, Chuck Moore, CEO of Navopache Electric along with his Administrative Assistant, Liz Neal chose a single piece of work for Best of Show. After a considerable time and debate, the Best of Show award went to Ireland Monahan, an eighth grader from Mountain Christian School.
In the K-3 category, first prize went to Kierlyn Standifird, a first grader from George Washington Academy. The second prize went to Emily Carlyon, a third grader from Linden Elementary and Sophie Ellis, a third grader from Mountain Christian School took home third prize.
In the category of 4-5 grades, first prize was awarded to Harlie Keele, a fourth grader from Nickolaus Elementary School. The second prize went to Sophia Mancini, a fifth grader from George Washington Academy and Destiny Murphy, a fourth grader from Mountain Christian School took home third prize.
The 6-8 category resulted in the most entries and the judges had a
difficult time choosing. After extensive debate, first prize was awarded to Whisper Barnette, a seventh grader from Canyon Day Middle School. The second prize went to Maitlyn Keele, an eighth grader from Show Low Junior High School and Andi Jo Robinson, a sixth grader from AZVA received third place.
The Best of Show Award was given to Ireland Monahan, an eighth from Mountain Christian School.
The show runs through April 15th. Please stop by the Center for the Arts at 251 Penrod Road in Show Low to check out the amazing artwork created by some of the children of the White Mountains.
