Hello Friends and Fellow Artists
I am into my second week at school and it is wearing me out. I change classes every 45 minutes and have to adapt to the new students and teacher every time. The kids are like everywhere else, they are great. I am surprised and somewhat dismayed at what I perceive as teaching to the test ruling instruction. They are always working from workbooks that are part of a British instructional program. It does not allow for individual differences in the students and if they miss one question the program moves on without any correction or understanding of why students missed the question. I am making no comments but doing what I am asked to do.
The country is a constant calendar of fiestas. Lots of eating and drinking. As soon as they clean up from one fiesta they start putting up the tents for the next one. Since every town has it patron saint which must be celebrated, Every saint has a brother or sister or cousin who must also be celebrated. Some very interesting food to try and enjoy.
I have finally found a place to live, three bedroom, plenty of room for visitors, and relatively inexpensive. It is hard to find a rental. The reason it is cheap is that it is on the fifth floor and there is no elevator. Great exercise though.
Your daily routine changes because of the custom here. I now get up a 6:30 and leave school at 2:30. Get home eat the heaviest meal of the day for me. Listen to music, take a nap. Then around 5 go out into the streets. Between 5-10 is when everyone is out. It is 10 o´clock, do you know where your children are? Yes, they are out on the plaza with everyone else. A lite snack before bed. Then of to sleep.
Madrid is wonderful and easy to get to. A 35 minute train ride and I am in the heart of the city. The European feel, architecture, boulevards, and parks are worth just walking around.
Hope all of you are enjoying life and painting away. I enjoy hearing from you so drop me an email.
